The crazy patchwork quilt pattern originated in the United States in the late 1800s. The style was inspired by the Japanese art and English embroidery displayed at the 1876 Philadelphia Centennial Exposition. Silk-screened work and cracked-glaze pottery from the Japanese pavilion inspired the unique patterns and spider web-like stitching of crazy quilts.
